Shuddering clutch

Asked by Warren H. Johnson

I AND a few friends own 100-Series Toyota LandCruisers with non-turbo diesel engines, and we constantly experience a shuddering clutch in first and second gears and reverse. A mechanic told us the only way to fix the problem is to get a heavy-duty aftermarket clutch kit fitted.

DRAGAN Vasic from All-Terrain 4x4 says the life of the standard clutch in the 100-Series is 80,000-120,000km depending on the type of use. Heavy offroading or towing reduces the life. Fitting a heavy-duty clutch doubles the life.
