Paintwork under attack

LAST year my son bought a new black Kia Rio. He paid extra for paintwork protection, which he was assured would keep his car looking new. The car is under cover when at home, but at work is parked in the open, and this is where the birds come in. Seagulls to be precise. Their droppings seem to have eaten away the paint. Our family's other cars get bird droppings on them but the paint is not eaten away as it is on my son's car. Is this normal?

Your son should find somewhere to park where the birds can't leave their calling cards. If they do, it's important to clean off the deposits as soon as possible. He should keep a rag and some high-quality paint cleaner in his car so he can use it the first chance he has. Regular washing and polishing also helps keep up appearances.
