    Toyota LandCruiser: using too much oil

    My 2008 Toyota Landcruiser 200 series V8 diesel has only done 38,500 km, but uses three to four litres of engine oil every 10,000 km. I have mentioned it to the dealership each time it has been serviced only to be told that the "engine is not run in" and it will take between 20-30,000 km to do it. At the 30,000 km service, I was asked to bring the car in at 1000 km intervals to check the oil usage. The dealer is saying the vacuum pump is the cause of the problem, and on two occasions I have been told the vacuum pump is an integral part of the engine and they cannot tell me where the oil is going. I believe the vacuum pump is for the braking system and as the engine does not have any oil leaks I feel the oil is being burnt and going up the exhaust. I feel this is excessive oil usage, have you heard of any other Landcruisers with similar problems?

    Early 200 Series Landcruisers did have a problem with a seal on the vacuum pump drive that was letting oil through into the pump.
