Kia Sorento 2011: Plastic crack from tow bar fitting?
Asked by Geoff Webb
I recently noticed a crack in the plastic right rear trim which covers from the rear door to the right rear door on my nine-month-old Kia Sorrento. The selling dealer advised that they had seen cracks like this before and advised that they believed that the crack was caused by the fitter who installed the Hayman Reece tow bar over eight months ago. I do not believe this is the case, as I would have noticed the crack during the past eight months. I believe that the crack has been caused when the spring loaded rear cargo blind is fitted to the fore most position. When this blind is fitted, the panel is distorted. The trim at the side window bows and the panel appears stressed. The tear in the trim is 700 mm from the rear blind. Kia has rejected my claim. I seek your advise and wonder if other Sorrento owners have suffered the same problem.

18 Jul 2012Kia advised us that the person who fitted the tow bar most likely caused it. If it was fitted by a Kia dealer you could have a claim and should pursue that through the dealer, if it was fitted by a non- dealer agent then the claim should be against the fitter responsible.
