I TOOK over the ownership of our much-loved 1971 XY Fairmont from my father a few years ago to keep it in the family. My father bought it when it was eight months old from a friend who worked as a salesman for Ford. It is in original condition, with a 302 Windsor V8 and a column-shift auto. It is dark metallic green with a white interior, a wind-back sunroof, bucket seats and woodgrain interior finish. It has all the exterior fittings of the GT, but chrome trim. I have all the ownership and purchase papers. I take it for a run only occasionally, because I am tired of being asked if I want to sell it. Can you tell me how much our beloved Henry is worth?
IT SOUNDS like a wonderful car, one any early Falcon enthusiast would love. From your description, and the fact it was owned by a Ford employee before your father, it could be a special-build car, which makes it hard to put a fair value on it. An XY Fairmont is worth $25,000-$35,000 depending on the options and condition. A Fairmont GS is highly prized and worth $45,000-$55,000. Yours appears to be an optioned-up Fairmont, and I believe it could be worth $35,000-$45,000. I understand your frustration at being asked if you want to sell it every time you take it out; a have the same feeling every time I drive my XW GT HO.
