I did spare parts for nearly 20 years, Honda was my specialty and I have seen nothing but grief with grey imports. There is the slick salesman telling unsuspecting buyers that all parts are on the shelf, with my ear then being chewed off because a part will be twice the price of the similar Australian-delivered car. Another good one is the warranty company doing a head gasket only, with no machining. Maybe a good idea is to make all governments and councils buy only cars made in Australia and that would give the makers the pick-up they need. I shudder to think of the flow-on in job losses yet to come.
It's too late for the local makers but there'll be a big battle over grey imports.
