I recently I had my Ford FG G6E serviced as it was nearing end of the warranty, although it's only done 37,000 km. The Ford dealership advised me that during the inspection, they found the coolant to be breaking down "due to age". Although skeptical I felt I had little choice but to agree to the draining and replacement of the coolant, which cost $177.80. I have had several new Fords and Holdens over the past 20 years and this is the first time that this procedure has been "recommended". Am I right to be suspicious?
It's always right to be suspicious, but in this case I would go along with changing the coolant. It's a good idea to replace the coolant regularly, perhaps once a year, if the carmaker doesn't specify it in the regular service schedule.
