Ford gremlins

I HAVE had a 1993 Ford Falcon EB for around two years now that occasionally cuts out, going dead electronically and stopping the engine. It happens at any time (on the highway doing 100km/h, or in town doing 40km/h). It is intermittent, sometimes going weeks without a problem. When it happens, everything electrical will go out for a second or two, including the engine. Then the engine will flick back on, the electrics will come back on and in most cases the Smart Lock light will remain on afterwards. I have taken it to several mechanics and auto electricians, but the problem still occurs. I have had a thermostat and connection wires replaced, and recently when I took it to a reputable dealer with access to the technical department at Ford they fixed something in the ignition switch. I am unsure as to whether this will fix the problem. Can you give me any hints on what to do if this persists?

FORD electrics, don't you love 'em? You are simply experiencing the sorts of electronic gremlins that a lot of Ford owners experience. If the Ford dealer believes the problem is fixed with what they have done, then fine. If the problem returns, have the computer checked, as this is often the cause of these sorts of problems. One day Ford might actually build some decent electrics into their cars, but then again . . .
