Diesel fuel bleed-out

If a person inadvertently ran a new diesel-powered car out of fuel, or if a fuel line fractured, is it necessary to bleed the fuel system as in the past? What action would be required if this happened and would the engine suffer any damage?

Most mechanics would prime the fuel system to get the car going again, it’s the quickest way of doing it. You shouldn’t do any damage to the fuel system by letting it run out of fuel, as you might do on an old diesel.
