Daewoo dilemma

Daewoo Daewoo Advice Daewoo Matiz Daewoo Matiz Advice Daewoo Matiz 2000
...
I OWN a Daewoo Matiz bought new in 2000. Within a few months the car was in for repairs because water was sloshing at my feet. It was fixed, but a month ago it overheated. There was a terrible smell and the gauge was fast approaching red. I was advised the manifold had melted and it was a recorded fault with them, but because the car was out of warranty Daewoo would not have advised me and probably wouldn't do anything about it. After some days, the RACgot back to me. They had been in touch with Daewoo and were instructed the vehicle was to be returned to the local dealer, who was to report on the damage. The service manager said he believed I had a fairly good case to have the car repaired through Daewoo. The local dealer says Daewoo ``in good faith'' has agreed to pay for parts and I am to pick up the labour fee of $500. Unhappy with this I contacted Daewoo to ask for an explanation, and was told how very generous they had been in paying for the parts. Still unhappy, I asked to be referred to someone higher and was informed that person was ``not for public contact''. I am aware Daewoo is pulling out of Australia. One of the questions I asked the so-called customer service person was,``Where does this leave those of us who bought these cars in good faith?'' In this case an identified fault has occurred twice in three years and it is difficult to get parts.

YOU are caught in a difficult situation not of your making. Daewoo has announced it is pulling out of Australia and that will make it hard when it comes to resolving problems. In the meantime, Holden is saying its dealers are taking responsibility for service and problem resolution. I'm sure that it will still be difficult to resolve problems like yours. I would suggest you persist in getting a satisfactory answer to your concerns, first with your dealer, then with Holden if you aren't satisfied. Phone Holden's customer assistance number, which you'll find in the telephone directory.
