REGARDING the problems with the spark plugs in Ford V8 engines: having worked at Bosch for many years, I know that Ford was the only company to make their plugs with a taper seat, without gaskets, steel to steel. All the other carmakers use flat seats with gaskets; I can't understand why Ford did this.
THE most likely explanation is cost. I would guess that a taper seat and no gasket is a lot cheaper than using a plug with a gasket, simple as that.
