    Ask Smithy Xtra EL Falcon auto jamming

    I have an EL Falcon automatic sedan with the 4.0-litre 6-cylinder engine that has done approx. 300,000 km. Recently as the car has got warm the gearbox has been jamming in third gear, after starting off fine from cold. Any suggestions?

    By locking in third gear it’s going into ‘limp home’ mode, probably because the computer has identified an electrical problem with the gearbox. A diagnostic check should identify the fault.
