Toyota LandCruiser: how to check transmission fluid

How do I check the automatic transmission fluid level on my 2006 Toyota Landcruiser 4.2-litre turbodiesel as I cannot locate a dipstick? Are you aware of problems with the front diff in these vehicles. Mine tore the teeth off the crown wheel at 120,000 km. As it was just out of warranty Toyota didn't want to know and advised that no problems had ever been experienced. Mine has had very little offroad use, and then only on tracks.

There should be a plug on the side of the transmission that you can use to check the trans fluid level. It’s unusual to strip teeth off the crown wheel; we haven’t had any other reports of that problem on the Landcruiser.
