2013 Ford Focus transmission issues

My 2013 Ford Focus has been booked in to have its clutch replaced due to recall. At the same time I have a bearing in the gearbox that needs replacing (costing me a few thousand dollars apparently). What would cause a gearbox bearing to wear out, and is it any way related to the dodgy transmission problems synonymous with the Focus?

I can only assume your car has the dual-clutch automatic transmission. If so the bearing problem could conceivably be related to the transmission issues.
