I bought a new 2012 Falcon XR6 MKII in October last year and have issues with it ever since, to the extent that since I have owned it I have only had it in my possession for 38 days. In January it began to shake and warning lights began flashing. The dealer advised there was an engine fault, but they couldn't diagnose it and they reset the computer, telling me all would be ok. Three days later the car broke down, due to a transmission fault according to the dealer the car was towed to. Three weeks later the car was ready to pick up after the transmission was repaired. Unfortunately, before I was even able to pick it up, a leak was discovered in the transmission and it had to be sent back for more repairs. It was another week before it was ready to be picked up, but the very next morning I had to take it back with more transmission woes, and to get a wheel replaced after it had been damaged while at the dealer's. As soon as I got it back the engine fault warning came on again. The dealers involved denied I had reported the engine problem to them and didn't want to know about it, so I started dealing with Ford's Customer Assistance people. I have asked about a replacement vehicle, as I believe I am entitled to under the new Consumer Protection laws. I also asked about swapping it for Ranger, which is of a similar value to my car, but I was told that my car is no longer worth as much as it was when I bought it because of depreciation. I have spent a lot of time and money trying to sort this problem out, and it has been very stressful. What can I do?
Sit down with your dealer and go through all the issues with him and seek a resolution with a time frame attached so you know what will be done and when it will be done. If you don't get any satisfaction with the dealer, elevate it to Ford directly. After that seek legal advice. Ford has a responsibility to fix your car, and while the service you have received appears to have been appalling it does appear that there has been an attempt to repair your car. I doubt that you would have much success in getting a replacement car while there are moves to fix yours. Despite the run-around you have received from dealers, the problem cannot be difficult to fix, any competent mechanic should be able to do the job. Stick with it and be demanding.
