Matt Campbell
Managing Editor - Head of Video

Matt Campbell has been at the forefront of automotive media for more than a decade, working not only on car reviews and news, but also helping manage automotive outputs across print, online, video and audio.

After completing his media degree at Macquarie University, Matt was an intern at a major news organisation as part of the motoring team, where he honed his skills in the online automotive reviews and news space. He did such a good job there they put him on full time, and since then he has worked across different automotive media outlets, before starting with CarsGuide in October 2017.

At CarsGuide Matt has helped shape the video output of the business, while also playing a key role in management behind the scenes, and helping in-market new car buyers make the right choice by continually evolving CarsGuide's comparison reviews. Driving more than 100 cars a year seemed like a dream to Matt when he first started out, but now it's all just part of the job - a job he loves and plans to stay in for a long time to come.

Matt is also an expert in used car values, as he's always on the hunt for a bargain - be it a project beater or a prime example of the breed. He currently owns a 2001 Audi TT quattro and a 2007 Suzuki Jimny JLX.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2022 review: PHEV
By Matt Campbell · 06 Nov 2021
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Plug-in Hybrid EV - or PHEV - is the newest member of the electrified family for the brand, adding a battery pack for real world EV driving of about 50 kilometres, while being backed by a petrol engine to charge the batteries or run the car entirely. It sounds confusing, and it can be, but this review will make this variant easy to understand.

By Matt Campbell · 29 Oct 2021

Hyundai Staria Load 2022 review
By Matt Campbell · 15 Oct 2021

It's larger in all directions, offers more cargo volume than the iLoad it replaces, and moves the game forward for commercial vehicle safety, too. But is it any good?

Renault Arkana 2022 review
By Matt Campbell · 30 Sep 2021
The Renault Arkana is a new nameplate for the French brand, and indeed offers a new direction for the company. This coupe-style SUV - with its lower, sleek roofline - is clearly inspired by the likes of the BMW X4 and X6, and Mercedes GLC Coupe and GLE Coupe, but comes in at a far more affordable price than any coupe-style SUV that has come before it from a European brand. But is it good value?

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2022 review
By Matt Campbell · 21 Sep 2021
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a smaller-than-most compact SUV that cuts its own shape in this ever-burgeoning segment. Newer and more high-tech than the ASX, but not quite as big as an Outlander, does this SUV offer enough to consider it a contender in the class? And is the PHEV plug-in hybrid EV model worth considering?
