Audi A4 2021 review: allroad 40 TDI off-road test
By Marcus Craft · 02 Dec 2020
The allroad is the nearest thing to an off-roader in Audi's A4 line-up, but what's it like as a city-and-suburbs daily driver and, better yet, what's it like when it's actually driven off the road? Will it get through soft sand? How does it cope with gravel roads and dirt tracks? These were just some of the questions we were keen to get answers to when we tested this allroad over seven days.

By Nedahl Stelio · 23 Sep 2020
The Audi A4 sedan is a new and improved version of a classic shaped car, that's always delivered on style, and now it has better technology, too. It's not the typical family car but it certainly fits a family of four quite well and makes you feel good at the same time.

Audi A4 allroad 45 TFSI quattro 2021 review: snapshot
By Andrew Chesterton · 14 Aug 2020
The allroad is the only vaguely off-road-focused variant of the A4, matching the wagon dimensions of the Avant a little extra ground clearance, some more rugged exterior styling and an off-road mode that uses the car’s traction and braking systems to deliver more off-road grip. This one costs $72,900, and gifts you a 2.0-litre turbo that will deliver 183kW and 370Nm, and a sprint to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds. It’s not lightning-fast, maybe, but the power feels plentiful for the nature of this A4.That engine pairs with a seven-speed S tronic auto, and thanks to quattro, you get AWD. Also new is a 12-volt mild hybrid system that can lower fuel use by up 0.3L/100km - now a claimed 7.4L/100km on the combined cycle. The allroad increases the A4’s dimensions to 4762mm x 1847mm x 1435mm, but also increases the cargo capacity to a considerable 495 litres with the rear seats in place, or 1495 litres with them folded flat. You can expect AEB with pedestrian detect, an exit warning system, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera - all of which contribute to the A4's five-star ANCAP safety rating. The high-tech stuff joins eight airbags (dual front, front side, side bags front and rear and curtains front and rear). You’ll also find LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a new 10.1-inch touchscreen that's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto equipped, a smart key with push-button start, leather trim, three-zone climate, standard navigation, DAB+ digital radio, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit (a 12.3-inch digital display that replaces the traditional driver's binnacle), as well as sportier exterior and interior styling, frameless mirrors and illuminated door sills, and a better Audi 10-speaker stereo.

By Andrew Chesterton · 14 Aug 2020
The 35 TFSI is the cheapest way into the A4 range, setting you back $55,900.For that, you'll find LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a new 10.1-inch touchscreen that's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto equipped, a smart key with push-button start, leather trim, three-zone climate, standard navigation and a DAB+ digital radio. The 35 TFSI is home to a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine producing 110kW and 270Nm, with that power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed S tronic automatic. That is now paired with a 12V mild hybrid system that delivers fuel savings of up to 0.3 litres per hundred kilometres. In fact, Audi says the 35 TFSI will use 6.1 litres per hundred kilometres on the combine cycle, and expel 167g/km of C02.You can expect AEB with pedestrian detect, an exit warning system, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera - all of which contribute to the A4's five-star ANCAP safety rating. The high-tech stuff joins eight airbags (dual front, front side, side bags front and rear and curtains front and rear).

The 35 TFSI S line is the second-cheapest way into the A4 range, setting you back $59,900, and sitting above the $55,900 35 TFSI.For that, you'll find the base-car’s LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a new 10.1-inch touchscreen that's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto equipped, a smart key with push-button start, leather trim, three-zone climate, standard navigation and a DAB+ digital radio. The extra S line spend, then, buys you Audi's Virtual Cockpit (a 12.3-inch digital display that replaces the traditional driver's binnacle), as well as sportier exterior and interior styling, frameless mirrors and illuminated door sills.
