By Marcus Craft · 04 Jul 2024
The latest Chinese-built ute - the GWM Cannon Alpha - brings with it a lot of news: there's a petrol-hybrid version available; a new-for-the-range 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine; and this ute is big - bigger than a standard GWM ute, bigger than a Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max. But is the new diesel worth your attention?

The Lexus LX range has a solid reputation as an off-roader and for towing, and the new-generation LX500d is built on the same platform as the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series. It uses that model's 3.3-litre V6 twin-turbocharged diesel engine and 10-speed auto - so there's plenty of excitement around this vehicle. If you like off-roading in luxury then perhaps the LX500d is worth checking out.

Ram 1500 2024 review: Big Horn

The Ram DT 1500 is one of the world's greatest utes. From the considered design and sophisticated engineering to its comfy and user-friendly cabin, we're frankly hooked. The Australian-remanufactured right-hand drive conversion is first class. And the big Hemi V8 shines. But the base Big Horn that's under $20K less than our favoured Laramie grade is just too compromised in the name of price.

We take this strictly limited edition (and very expensive) car and hit the trails.

By Marcus Craft · 05 May 2024
The V8 Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series is so popular the mind boggles. This is a purpose-built ute to the extreme. It's big and brash, noisy and not so nice - and in a molly-coddled, too-easy-to-be-triggered world, the 79 remains truly refreshing. But now that it's had a modern-ish update - replete with a 2.8L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and six-speed auto - is this the end for the beloved V8?

The 2024 Isuzu MU-X is here and it looks... well, a lot like the outgoing model. But new for this model year is the option of a smaller diesel engine, which the brand says will save you fuel without costing much in the way of capability. We put the 2024 MU-X to the test to find out.
