Autowerks is the Thai equivalent of Hoonigan

By Mitchell TulkMitchell Tulk

Bangkok might be filled with utes, Tuk Tuks and small hatchbacks, but search hard enough and you might be able to find some exotic supercars. Look in the right spot, and you’ll find a company called Autowerks.

Established six years ago by Warren Adulayavichitr, Autowerks has quickly become one of the top tuning companies in Thailand.

We were treated to a tour of the workshop and it was amazing to get a glimpse of what was hiding behind the garage doors.

In the ‘showroom’ we're greeted by a Lotus Exige V6 Cup and a 2017 Ford Mustang, which wears the first widebody kit ever designed for this muscle car by Alpha Male Performance (AMP) which beat Liberty Walk to the punch.

Much like the Hoonigan garage, gold is everywhere… literally. There's a BMW M3 with a golden wrap and more carbon bits than you can count.

A range of 911s also line the shop with a Ferrari Super America and a 2011 Audi R8 Spyder breaking up the rear-engine sports cars.

To match its aggressive Liberty Walk body kit, this R8 is in for an engine tune, which will see power figures increased to over 447kW (600hp).

Warren owns a bright orange E30 BMW M3, which is a purpose-built for racing, but as he explains Thailand doesn’t have a category for this type of car.

"Unfortunately in Thailand we don't have a classic series for older cars ,so it's more for weekend track days."

"But who knows, maybe in the near future they will have something for the classic cars to race in as well," he said

Despite specialising in exotic supercars, Warren explains a Mercedes-AMG owner asked Autowerks to tune his 300cc Vespa and the workshop wizards easily got another 5.0kW out of the engine.

The workshop wouldn't be complete without a dyno and the guys at Autowerks have a superflow example with four-wheel link, allowing them to test all-wheel drive cars without damaging the drivetrain.
