The next generation Hyundai Genesis -- being built for the first time in right-hand drive, and bound for Australia -- will also offer all-wheel drive.

The Korean carmaker has released details of the system, called H-TRAC (Hyundai traction) which electronically controls torque split between the front and rear according to the demands of road conditions -- with selectable driving modes that allow you to tailor the amount of torque sent to either end.

More Hyundai models will follow suit in adding AWD after the Genesis, which is already being tested at race tracks around the globe -- including the tough Nurburgring in Germany.

Hyundai has previously confirmed to Carsguide that we'll get the new Genesis coupe, and they are also considering the sedan. Drivetrain details have not been confirmed yet, but they're unlikely to move much from the current vehicles' 2012 update, with a base model 248kW 3.8-litre and a range-topping R-Spec with a 320kW 5.0-litre V8 married to an eight-speed automatic as standard.

However a diesel option may be on the cards as well. We'll know more when the new Genesis is unveiled in Korea in December, ahead of its official world debut at January's Detroit motor show.
