Revised Fiat 500 and Alfa Romeo Mito

A Fiat 500 with teeth and the Alfa Romeo Mito with new, greener engines. Though only fresh in Australia, the Mito this week debuts Alfa's new range of clean, efficient MultiAir engines that get here next year.

The new 1.4-litre 125kW engine has a class-leading ratio of 6.7 kg/hp which is almost 10 per cent better than current 114 kW 1.4-litre TBi. At 91 kw/litre, this engine is also one of the world leaders in specific power output and this value is the highest ever recorded for an Alfa car.

The power increase that allows Alfa's Quadrifoglio Verde (green four-leaf clover) the car to sprint to 100km/h in 7 seconds also arrives with lower fuel consumption and emission levels. Alfa claims the MultiAir engine gets an average of 4.8 litres/100km and 139g/km of CO2.

Adding the name Quadrifoglio Verde reflects Alfa's sporting heritage, so the car comes with upgraded specifications including 17-inch satin titanium-finished wheels that are based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione supercar.

It has a Dynamic Suspension system with four electronically-controlled shock absorbers, five accelerometric sensors, a control unit and an interface with Alfa DNA for the different settings and with the other on-board electronic systems.

Its main feature is to actively and continuously control the response of the shock absorbers, which adapt depending on the movement of the car and the road conditions, as well as the driving style.

The car also has a new six-speed gearbox that has been developed by FPT and manufactured at the Verrone factory in Italy.
