Nissan has officially confirmed when the fourth-generation X-Trail mid-size SUV will enter Australian showrooms.
As expected, the new X-Trail will launch locally next year, although Nissan is yet to provide more specific timing, so stay tuned.
So, what do we know about the ‘T33’ X-Trail at this stage? Well, given the related North American-market Rogue was revealed all the way back in June 2020, the answer is quite a lot.
In fact, the Chinese-market X-Trail that made its debut in April 2021 could be a better representation of the model that ends up being sold in Australia, with it featuring a chunkier front bumper insert and a unique rear bar.
Either way, a seven-seat layout is optional inside, where the X-Trail adds a digital instrument cluster to its central touchscreen, both of which are powered by Nissan’s latest multimedia system.
That said, there are big questions marks hanging over which powertrains the X-Trail will be available with locally, with the Rogue’s 135kW/245Nm 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder engine the likeliest entry-level choice.
However, a yet-to-be-detailed ePower series hybrid is all but confirmed as the flagship option. It should feature a small petrol engine that exclusively acts as a generator for the battery, which powers an electric motor to drive the wheels.
Pricing will also be key for the X-Trail in its fight against the best-selling Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5, with it expected to move upmarket in more ways than one. For reference, the current model starts from $30,665 plus on-road costs and reaches $45,695.
As reported, 2022 will be a huge year for Nissan Australia, with four next-generation models set to launch, starting with the Qashqai small SUV in early 2022 and then the Z sports coupe mid-year and the Pathfinder large SUV “later in 2022”.
