Toyota is reportedly gearing up to begin producing electric versions of the RAV4 and LandCruiser Prado in the US.
According to a report from Reuters, the Japanese carmaker is “strategically transitioning” production across both its Kentucky and Indiana plants to allow for production of these new electric SUVs.
Production of the Lexus ES will reportedly end at Toyota’s Kentucky plant as the new-generation model will only be made in Japan.
The Kentucky plant also produces the Camry and RAV4 Hybrid for the US market, while the Indiana plant currently produces the Sienna, Highlander (Kluger), Grand Highlander and Lexus TX.
A person familiar with the matter told Reuters that the new Toyota electric SUVs will be “based” on the RAV4 and Land Cruiser, which is the US and UK name for the Prado.
However, both are reportedly set to be three-row SUVs, meaning they’re likely going to be around the size of a Kluger and beyond.

No other details have been confirmed about these electric SUVs yet.
An electric version of the Kluger has already been earmarked for a while now and there have been a number of reports on this.
Automotive News reported back in July this electric Kluger will arrive in US dealers in early 2026.

Toyota has also floated the idea of an electric LandCruiser before. In 2023 the Japanese carmaker revealed the LandCruiser Se concept at the Tokyo motor show.
Unlike other LandCruiser models, including the Prado, the electric concept used a monocoque platform, rather than a body-on-frame architecture.
As previously reported, Toyota has promised to electrify all of its models, excluding GR performance, by the end of the decade.
“As for Toyota’s 2030 commitment, of course the LandCruiser should be included,” said Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Chief Engineer Keita Moritsu to Australian media.

“However, as I explained, the LandCruiser philosophy [means being] suitable for customer demand is very important.
“So that’s why I need to think about what is suitable electrification between carbon neutrality and customer demand for the LandCruiser.”
