GWM Haval’s rival to the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 is set for a big redesign in its next iteration.

A report from Chinese car news outlet Xcar shows the new Haval H6 design with styling elements from the H6 GT now prominent across the H6 range.

Information published by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology details not only the H6’s fresh design, but also the fact its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine now makes 175kW compared to the previous 150kW.

The H6 also becomes larger in the key metrics, going from 4653mm long to 4711mm, as well as from 1886mm to 1940mm wide, and 6mm taller at 1730mm. The wheelbase remains 2738mm.

But it’s the new face for the H6 that’s the headline, with the front end from the H6 GT ‘SUV coupe’ making its way to the rest of the range.

Key points like the headlights remain the same judging from images, also shared with the slightly different design that the Thai market H6 gets.

The large central grille is broken up by some painted bodywork, which could be more easily modified to keep in the style for an electric version that doesn’t need much air intake.

The images published by Xcar also show new wheel designs in 18- and 19-inch sizes, and a new rear end with twin-exhaust exits. Its taillights also now mimic those of the H6 GT.

When and, although likely, if this design will make it to Australia is yet unclear.
