Renault Australia has rejigged its Kangoo range for MY20, deleting two of the small van’s variants and increasing the pricing and specification of the remaining three.

Copping a $500 price rise, the entry-level manual Compact now kicks off the Kangoo line-up from $25,490 plus on-road costs, while its automatic counterpart still charges a $2500 premium.

The Maxi grade has been halved, with the manual version departing, while its automatic sibling has gone up $1000, to $31,490.

Meanwhile, the flagship manual Crew is no more, having previously been priced at $30,490.

The two Compact variants are both motivated by an 84kW/190Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, while the remaining Maxi version uses an 81kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo-diesel unit.

The aforementioned transmission options are either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Either way, drive is exclusively sent to the front wheels.

Both grades now come standard with glazed 180-degree rear barn doors, dusk-sensing lights, front foglights, rain-sensing windshield wipers and a reversing camera.

Included equipment otherwise includes power-folding side mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, cruise control, hill-start assist and rear parking sensors.

Two options packages are available: the Trade Pack (anti-slip timber floor, full-height timber side protection panelling and LED ceiling lights) and Business Pack (satin chrome two-tone front bumper, 15-inch alloy wheels, climate control and tinted barn door glass).

Individual options include a 7.0-inch touchscreen R-Link multimedia system with satellite navigation and Android Auto support, and metallic paintwork.

The latter costs $660, with Mocha Brown, Highland Grey, Oyster Grey, Star Blue, Carmen Red, Jet Black and Poppy Red all on offer. No-cost solid colours are limited to Mineral White and Urban Grey.

For reference, the Kangoo comes with a three-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and one year of roadside assistance.

However, the latter can be extended up to four years if the Volkswagen Caddy rival is exclusively serviced (every 12 months of 15,000km, whichever comes first) at an authorised Renault dealership.

Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum. That said, despite loving cars and writing, Justin chose to pursue career paths that didn’t lend themselves to automotive journalism, before eventually ending up working as a computer technician. But that car itch just couldn’t be scratched by his chipped Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7), so he finally decided to give into the inevitable and study a Master of Journalism at the same time. And even with the long odds, Justin was lucky enough to land a full-time job as a motoring journalist soon after graduating and the rest, as they say, is history. These days, Justin happily finds himself working at CarsGuide during the biggest period of change yet for the automotive industry, which is perhaps the most exciting part of all. In case you’re wondering, Justin begrudgingly sold the Golf R (sans chip) and still has plans to buy his dream car, an E46 BMW M3 coupe (manual, of course), but he is in desperate need of a second car space – or maybe a third.
