Hyundai pairs with Carly car subscription service

Getting into a Hyundai just got cheaper as the brands models will now be available through car subscription service Carly.

Hyundai has become the first automotive brand in Australia to embrace a car subscription service, teaming up with Carly to offer its models in showrooms across the country.

With dealers retaining outright ownership of vehicles, customers can pay a recurring fee for access and use, rather than purchasing a car outright.

The subscription fee also covers insurance, servicing and registration costs, and is charged every 15 days.

With a softening new-car market, Carly CEO Chris Noone said the car subscription service opens a new avenue of revenue for dealers in Australia.

“The partnership comes at a time when new car sales are continuing to decline,” he said. “Car finance is getting harder to obtain and banks are cracking down on lending, especially after the banking Royal Commission.

“Some are complaining that conditions are tough in the automotive retail market, so Hyundai and Carly are seizing the opportunity to empower Hyundai dealers to innovate and engage customers in a fresh way that suits industry.

“It provides the potential to monetise a large volume of vehicles from Hyundai’s 172-strong nationwide dealer network with support from the third largest vehicle brand.”

Meanwhile, Hyundai Australia boss JW Lee said the partnering with Carly will allow the South Korean brand to remain agile in the changing automotive landscape.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Carly to launch an industry first vehicle subscription programme delivered through the Hyundai dealer network,” he said.

“The future of personal mobility will not be based solely around vehicle ownership, and Hyundai will adapt to changing consumer demands.

“Through this partnership we will provide consumers with more choice, an alternative to purchasing a vehicle, which for some drivers may better suit their ever-evolving lifestyles.”

The Carly smartphone app will be the touchpoint for consumers and dealers, while pricing will vary depending on which Hyundai models are on offer.
