BYD Shark 6

BYD Shark 6

$57,900

Undoubtedly BYD’s most hyped-up model for the Australian market yet. The plug-in hybrid Shark 6 ushers in a new generation of utes for the segment, leaving dual-cab diesel staples in the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max wary.

The model’s initial late-2024 launch was dogged by delivery issues, softening the initial sales impact it was expected to have. But make no mistake, this is a big car for BYD in Australia.

The line-up currently starts at $57,900 for the Shark 6 Dual Motor Premium and ranges through to $57,900 for the range-topping Shark 6 Dual Motor Premium.

BYD Shark 6 Pricing & Specs

The price range for the BYD Shark 6 varies based on the trim level you choose. Starting at $57,900 for the latest year the model was manufactured. The model range is available in the following body types starting from the engine/transmission specs shown below.

BYD Shark 6 Accessories

Given the price point, the Shark 6 is very well specified.

Standard equipment includes a high degree of advanced driver-assist safety gear, including autonomous emergency braking, cross-traffic alert/braking and lane support systems.

You'll also find a 15.6-inch rotatable central touchscreen, a 360-degree camera, powered/heated/vented front seats, premium audio with eight speakers, wireless phone chargers, rear privacy glass, vehicle-to-load (V2L) appliance-powering functionality, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and 18-inch alloy wheels.

BYD Shark 6 Interior

The Shark 6 is big for a mid-sized dual-cab ute, with lots of space for five people.

The interior design is modern and fresh, with the dash being dominated by a 15.6-inch rotatable central touchscreen. It hosts most of the switchgear and controls, though the good news for people who prefer physical buttons is that the climate and vehicle-control settings are easy to find and operate. Just a bit of familiarisation is required.

A multi-adjustable driving position offers unobstructed views of the digital and multi-configurable instrumentation display. Similarly, vision out is good too.

Finally, as well as being well-finished and expensively-presented, the Shark 6 offers ample storage and ventilation, as well as lots of equipment.

BYD Shark 6 Engine

The Shark 6 features a 135kW/260Nm 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine, driving either the front wheels or charging the battery pack.

Combined with a 170kW/310Nm motor on the front axle and a 150kW/340Nm motor out on the back axle, providing four-wheel drive capability, the combined maximum power is 321kW and maximum torque is 650Nm.

BYD Shark 6 Dimensions

The dimensions of the BYD Shark 6 Dual Cab vary according to year of manufacture and spec level.
The dimensions shown above are for the base model.

BYD Shark 6 Towing Capacity

The BYD Shark 6 has maximum towing capacity of 2500kg for the latest model available.

BYD Shark 6 Seats

The Shark 6 is a five-seater dual-cab ute. The front seats are electrically operated, with heating and ventilation.

The rear seat back squab is set at a 27-degree angle, which is said to improve comfort. It folds to reveal some additional storage, including for the jack.

Below that, the cushion is thick and supportive. It lifts up but there is no meaningful storage under there.

BYD Shark 6 Fuel consumption

The BYD Shark 6 is available in a number of variants and body types that are powered by Hybrid fuel type(s). It has an estimated fuel consumption starting from 7.9L/100km for Dual Cab

BYD Shark 6 Wheel Size

The BYD Shark 6 has a number of different wheel and tyre options. When it comes to tyres, these range from 265x65 R18 for Dual Cab in 2025 with a wheel size that spans from 8x18 inches.

BYD Shark 6 Boot Space

BYD says the Shark 6 has a tub load capacity of 1200 litres.

BYD Shark 6 Speed

The BYD Shark 6 races from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds, which the company claims is faster than a Ford Ranger Raptor.

BYD Shark 6 Range

BYD's own figures say that in pure-EV mode, the Shark 6 PHEV should deliver up to 100km of electricity-only drive, or, according to NEDC-verified figures, about 800km of combined petrol/EV range.
