The even prettier second-generation Range Rover Evoque is available in four trim-levels with a choice of six engines. The base model S costs a fair bit more than its named competitors but is bigger and prettier than any of them. We spent a week with the Evoque S D180 to see just how base the base model is.

The BMW X5 is a large SUV that can come as a seven- or five-seater, depending on your needs. I do love a car you can customise - but so you should be able to at this price.I was in the X5 xDrive25d which is the entry-level model and costs $99,900, before on road costs and extras. This particular car is a five seater and competes in a category with cars like the Audi Q7, Mercedes GLA, and Volkswagen Touareg. It's in a competitive category with Audi, BMW and Mercedes, so how does the Volvo XC40 stack up against other luxury small SUVs?

This a small SUV comparison with a difference. Why? Because one of these cars is not necessarily like the others. However, we’re aiming to assess these models not so much on the glittery added bits, but the way they perform in other ways. We’ll assess each of these models against a range of criteria to help you decide which deserves to be on your shopping list. Let’s get to it.
