Porsches by the Bay is an ever growing event for Porsche fans in Melbourne.

Held often early on a Sunday morning in Melbourne's Bayside area, the Stuttgart-sourced smorgasbord is hosted by Rob Raymer from RSR garage. The event rotates through a couple of different locations, but is always at one of the many beachfront sites in the area.

There's nothing quite like a well maintained classic.

Cars begun to arrive from 7am just as the sun was beginning to rise, the sound of air cooled German engineering filling the car park with wonderful sounds. Owners parked up and then began to mingle and chat about recent modifications or changes that had been made.

A place for all walks of Porsche enthusiasm, old or new.

Most headed to the local café to fill up on caffeine and to warm up as the temperature was barely in the single figures.

Once coffee had been issued & consumed, most wondered around the car park checking out the constant flow of cars. Cameras and phones were pulled out, and many photos were taken of not only owner's own cars but of their favorites, too.

Happy-snaps galore.

The crowd was mixed from the young car spotting enthusiasts to the mature owners who had owned their pride and joy from new.

Some of the highlights on the day were a stunning 914, a couple of clean 930’s including Rob’s own yellow 930 with original Fuch wheels, current 911 GT3RS’s and some of their older Carerra RS siblings from the 90s.

Of particular note was one of only 1963 Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Editions in graphite grey.

After a couple of hours the owners began to head off in different directions to continue on with their Sundays.

A rare 914 for consideration.

Growing up in Tasmania, car culture hardly surrounded Joel. But between Targa, the Australian Rally Championship and V8 Supercars there was enough to build Joel’s passion for all things automotive. Joel got his first big break covering the Australian Rally Championship in the mid 2000s.  His two biggest publishing accomplishments were for two publications which are no longer in print, first one photo published in Motorsport News in the mid ‘90s and then his first feature story published in Speed magazine in the mid 2000s, both from rally events.  He now combines that automotive passion every day in his photography and writing. The best car he’s owned to date was a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX, with the sound of the boxer engine and handling causing him to yearn for another.  If he had the money, he would buy a Dodge Viper from the early ‘90s. Did someone say 8.0-litre V10?
