Actually it's not a Beetle, and it should really be in a museum somewhere. Technically, it's a Kraft Deutsche Freude (Nazi VW) Type 82e.
It's being sold for a cool $US525k (almost $AU700k!), but not because it's a 1944 war era relic, because it was owned by (or at very least the offices of) Hitler's reich-hand-man Hermann Goring.
From the images in the ebay ad, it would need some work if you really wanted to drive it, but it's more suited as a museum piece as-is.
Did we mention it is being sold by apparent Nazi enthusiast and Sandra Bullock-ex Jesse James? I'm sure this will do wonders for his image.
What's the story behind the Type 82e? Before Allied occupation of Nazi Germany, the original (Type 1) Beetle had some interesting wartime spin-offs. The Type 82 'Kubelwagen' (pictured below) was a lightweight off-road version of the Beetle.
A bit like a German Jeep, but the 82e for sale was a Beetle with a bit of extra ride height, designed to be able to transport officers around more rugged terrain.
