Volkswagen has confirmed pricing for its all-new Polo GTI, with the dual-clutch auto-only light hot hatch to arrive in Australian showrooms from $30,900 plus on-road costs, representing a $1000 increase over the outgoing model.

The German carmaker has opted to ditch the six-speed manual offered in the previous generation, due to the three-pedal version not yet going into production globally. Volkswagen Australia hasn’t ruled out bringing the manual variant here when it is available.

To go with the increased dimensions of the new-generation Polo, the GTI has increased engine displacement by 200cc to 2.0-litres, that comes with a 40Nm output increase for a total of 147kW/320Nm.

Power is fed exclusively to the front wheels, with the six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission the sole option.

From the outside, the Polo GTI is distinguished by a unique front and rear bumper.

The classic tartan upholstery is included inside, offset by red trim on the dash and centre console, with other specification including an 8.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, 'App-connect' with two USB ports, six speakers, multi-function display, dual-zone climate control, leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, LED interior lighting, power folding door mirrors, keyless entry and cruise control.

Safety equipment includes front assist with city emergency brake, pedestrian monitoring, tyre pressure warning and a rearview camera.

Other specification highlights include sport select suspension with driving profile selection, an electronic differential lock for the front axle, automatic headlights, LED tail-lights, front foglights with cornering function, and rain-sensing wipers.

Volkswagen will offer three different packages for the Polo GTI, starting with the $1400 'Driver Assistance' package that includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, park assist and proactive occupant protection system.

The 'Sound and Vision' package sets buyers back $1900 and includes active info display, discover media navigation system, media control and a Beats 300W premium audio system.

Metallic and pearl effect paint also add a $500 premium.
