I own a 2011 Toyota Prado GX D4D auto bought new and serviced in accordance with Toyota logbook requirements by the same dealer using genuine parts. The most recent service was at 138,000-plus km prior to a lengthy trip, where Toyota was advised of same and asked to replace all fluids. I am now in the situation where after stopping to fuel up I find my engine has suffered catastrophic failure within 24 km of said fuelling point and the odometer now reads 141,500 km. The workshop says injector flow rates were found to be out of spec on cylinders 2/3/4. A compression test found cylinder three defect, injector failure and melted/holed piston. I have requested a genuine replacement engine. Do I have any comeback for compensation from Toyota or insurance? Toyota told me to have engine assessed by dealer, RACQ took my vehicle to first available workshop, so this is no longer practical.
I doubt that you have any comeback on Toyota, but have the engine checked by a Toyota dealer for the cause of the failure and then you will have some idea of the possibility of a claim.
