After reading about problems with noisy injectors in Toyota Prados with diesel engines I took my car to a dealer for a cold check. The results I was given indicated that the injectors were within tolerance. That meant nothing to me as they still rattle and it blows black smoke in the mornings when cold. The dealer said that it could be an intake problem, or something else, which they would have to investigate to find the problem and would maybe cost $800. I think it is probably injectors, which they will not fix. Can you advise how I can get off the merry go round?
It seems to be a common problem with Toyota diesels, and one that doesn't have a fix. Others I know of have had the injectors replaced, only for the problem to come back a few months later. Go to a diesel engine specialist and get their advice.
