I TOOK delivery of a Ford Mondeo XR5 in February and straight away it showed signs of electrical problems. The power windows refused to work and the doors would not lock. I was advised the car had faulty door and window modules. These were replaced, but the windows are still not working. The car has been back to the dealer several times to rectify this matter. Early this month, I was unable to start the car. This was due to the car not recognising the key and it had to be towed to the dealer. I have now been advised the module has broken down again and a replacement is not expected for some time. I believe this car has serious electrical issues and, because it has been off the road for half its lifetime, I believe I should have the opportunity to have it replaced or my money refunded. The dealer and Ford have arranged for a replacement vehicle to drive, but as I am self-employed I need a reliable car. I have discussed the situation with Consumer Affairs, but there is little benefit pursuing the matter there.
I WOULD persist with Ford. It seems they've ordered the parts to fix it, though it's disappointing they aren't here on hand in this country and you have to wait so long for them. Let them fix it. If that doesn't work, consider taking legal action. In the meantime, keep detailed records of everything that happens, including phone calls with dealers, Ford and whoever else you talk to on this matter.
