I began experiencing a vibration through the steering wheel of my 2010 Ford Fiesta Zetec soon after buying it. My Ford dealer advised me that all four wheels were buckled and that as a result my car was unroadworthy and that all four wheels needed to be replaced. They also advised me to replace the tyres. I was advised that the sporty type of car and the alloy wheels makes it susceptible to non- freeway roads. I live on a partially unmade road of approximately 500 metres. My local council reviewed the road and did not believe it would have caused the damage to the four wheels. My insurance company fortunately paid for the damage, less my excess of $500. I am now unsure if I should sell the car given that it has not tolerated less than 12 months of driving. Do you have any advice or know if this has been a problem with this car?
First I think the dealer has given you very poor advice, alloy wheels, while more susceptible to damage than the good old steel rims, are still capable of surviving on the roads we drive on for the life of the vehicle. It's probably too late now, but if I received that advice I would be getting the dealer to justify it, and would seek a second opinion.
