This plug-in hybrid (PHEV) rival to the Mitsubishi Outlander took the Australian market by storm in 2024, snatching the crown of Australia’s best-selling PHEV from the Outlander with a marginal sales lead.
Both models have been fighting it out ever since, with their respective sales practically neck-and-neck. Expect big things forward as Australians increasingly adopt PHEV cars.
The line-up currently starts at $42,990 for the Sealion 6 Essential and ranges through to $52,990 for the range-topping Sealion 6 Premium Extended Range.
The Sealion 6 is available in just four exterior colours - white, black, or two greys, while the interior can be chosen in black, black and brown or blue and grey.
Standard features on the base car include 19-inch alloys, LED headlights and tail-lights, keyless entry and push-start ignition, up to a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, online connectivity with over-the-air updates, a panoramic glass roof, six-way power adjust for the driver V2L (vehicle-to-load) capability.
The Sealion 6 offers generous synthetic leather-clad front seats in all grades with a synthetic leather steering wheel. All grades have power adjust for the driver, with higher grades adding power adjust for the passenger. The panoramic glass roof is also standard across the range. The interior is also screen-centric, with a large rotating 12.8-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
The front-wheel drive Essential and Dynamic grades are equipped with a 1.5-litre non-turbo engine (72kW/122Nm) paired to an electric motor (145kW/300Nm) in an effectively continuously variable hybrid transaxle set-up. Combined power is 160kW. Meanwhile the top-spec all-wheel drive Premium adds a turbocharger to the engine (96kW/220Nm) a slight power boost to the front motor (150kW/300Nm) and adds a motor on the rear axle (120kW/250Nm) for a combined output of 238kW.
