The Renault Megane E-Tech made its debut in 2021 as the brand’s first dedicated electric small SUV. Unlike earlier Megane models that were petrol or diesel hatchbacks, this version was built from the ground up on the CMF-EV platform shared with the Nissan Ariya. It was introduced in Europe as part of Renault’s push to shift away from combustion power and strengthen its position in the growing EV market.
In 2022, the Renault Megane E-Tech began rolling out across global markets under different names. In some regions it was branded as the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric to highlight its full battery-powered setup. The model was offered with a choice of battery capacities and single-motor outputs, giving buyers flexibility between range and performance. Updates also improved its connected tech and safety systems, which aligned it with rivals in the compact EV segment.
Today the Renault Megane E-Tech represents a major step in Renault’s electrification strategy. It serves as both a replacement for the traditional Megane hatch and a competitor to models like the Volkswagen ID.3 and Hyundai Kona Electric. For Australian buyers, its arrival signals Renault’s intent to build a broader EV range. The Megane E-Tech now stands as the brand’s key global electric passenger model.
The line-up currently starts at $54,990 for the Megane E-Tech Techno Ev60 and ranges through to $54,990 for the range-topping Megane E-Tech Techno Ev60.
Six colours are available – ‘Rafale Grey’, ‘Shadow Grey’, ‘Solid White’, ‘Diamond Black’, ‘Flame Red’ and ‘Night Blue’. There’s also a choice of body-coloured or a contrasting roof in Diamond Black or Shadow Grey (depending on the body colour chosen).

At a fraction over 4.2m long, just under 1.8m wide and 1.5m high the Megane is a ‘large’ small SUV that’s right-sized for city and urban use, yet its tightly packaged battery and a 2.7m wheelbase free up an impressive amount of interior space.
Inside, the look and feel is slick and premium. The dual screens for media and instrumentation are joined in a single single, angled housing. They’re both high-res and the displays are crisp as a freshly ironed shirt.
The dash design is clean and simple with a (recycled) light grey textile trim used on its upper surface. That said, the dark headlining and liberal use of grey to black materials around the cabin make for a mature, borderline sombre tone overall.
Boot space is deep and relatively generous at 440 litres with the rear seat upright, expanding to 1332 litres with the second row seat folded.
The Megane E-Tech’s standard features list includes 20-inch alloy rims, full LED lighting (including auto adaptive headlights), dual-zone climate control, a 9.0-inch multimedia touchscreen and 12.3-inch instrument display, adaptive cruise control, six-speaker Arkamys ‘Auditorium’ audio (with digital radio), wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, keyless entry and start, auto door handles, rain-sensing wipers, interior (64-colour) ambient lighting, plus heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
Renault claims the Megance E-Tech will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.4 seconds. Top speed is 160km/h.
The Megane E-tech is powered by a single ‘electrically-excited’ synchronous motor sending 160kW/300Nm to the front wheels via a single-speed, reduction gear auto transmission.

The Megane E-Tech seats five and the synthetic leather and grey (again, recycled) fabric seat trim, highlighted by contrast stitching on the edges, looks and feels good. The front seats in particular are supremely comfortable on longer journeys.
