This Ferrari F40 is rare and well done at the same time

This is what's left of apparently one of only eight F40 prototypes.

Far from being on display in a museum or locked away in some billionare's private estate, this F40 met its crispy, crackling end on a road in Italy, while apparently on tour with a group of other cars.

Hey, at least it went out doing what it was built for.

According to reports this is the same Ferrari F40 prototype that has had an unusual past of actually being driven hard, as it is the same Ferrari that appears being driven with wanton abandon in this video.

Although we're not sure about that, given the car in the original IVG report appears to be red.

As no story would be complete without a slight twist, allegedly the owner was driving it to take delivery of a (also set to be very rare) LaFerrari Aperta.

We wonder what will happen with the car's charred remains, it will still retain a chassis number which would give it a chance at resurrection. What a massive job that would be.

Despite studying ancient history and law at university, it makes sense Tom ended up writing about cars, as he spent the majority of his waking hours finding ways to drive as many as possible. His fascination with automobiles was also accompanied by an affinity for technology growing up, and he is just as comfortable tinkering with gadgets as he is behind the wheel. His time at CarsGuide has given him a nose for industry news and developments at the forefront of car technology.
