Another family friendly plug-in hybrid SUV is about to lob on the Australian market, and this one is priced to compete.
Following CarsGuide’s story confirming that the new model was on the horizon, GWM Australia has confirmed pricing for the 2025 Haval H6GT PHEV that will land in dealerships in the first quarter of next year.
Kicking off from $55,990 drive-away, the plug-in hybrid will join the petrol-powered H6GT Ultra that is priced at $46,490 drive-away.
That pricing puts the coupe-style SUV in the crosshairs of other PHEV SUVs of a similar size and positioning, including the BYD Sealion 6 (from $48,990), the Mitsubishi Outlander (from $57,290) and the Cupra Formento VZe (from $64,990, all before on-road costs).
There will just be one grade of PHEV offered - the Ultra. Spec will largely mirror the petrol Ultra.
The big news is the H6GT’s PHEV’s class-leading electric driving range of 180km, according to GWM. That figure is thanks to a 35.4kWh battery pack. This is a big jump over the BYD Sealion 6’s claim of around 80 to 90km, and the Outlander’s EV 84km range.
It also means the combined petrol and electric driving range is in excess of 1000km.
The official combined fuel consumption figure is expected to be less than 1.0L/100km, undercutting the Sealion 6’s figure of 1.1L/100km.
The powertrain combines a 110kW/230Nm 1.5-litre — two on the front axle and one on the rear. This makes for all-wheel drive traction, a total system output of 342kW and 762Nm and a 0-100km/h dash time of a sports car-rivalling 4.9 seconds.
The H6GT can charge via 6.6kW AC or 48kW for DC. GWM says the vehicle can be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in about 26 minutes.
GWM is set to launch a number of new PHEV models in 2025. As well as the H6GT, the growing Chinese manufacturer will roll out plug-in versions of the GWM Ute Cannon Alpha, and the Tank 500 SUV.
