Volvo Australia has confirmed local pricing for its incoming segment-treading electric car, the ES90.

Set to arrive in two variants from launch, the 2026 Volvo ES90 starts from $88,880 before on-road costs for the ES90 Plus Single Motor or $107,990 in Ultra Single Motor guise.

The drivetrain’s globally available specifications put the sole single-motor powertrain at 245kW and 480Nm, with a 6.9-second run to 100km/h from standstill.

Two Twin Motor drivetrains are available in Europe, one a 330kW/670Nm set-up and a Performance version with 500kW/870Nm.

Volvo says the ES90 ā€œcombines the refined elegance of a sedan, the adaptability of a fastback, and the spacious interior and higher ground clearance associated with SUVsā€, thus referring to the ES90 as a ā€˜car’ rather than an SUV.

Its dimensions, according to the international specifications, come in at exactly five metres (5000mm) long, 1942mm wide and 1546mm tall, with a long 3102mm wheelbase resulting in what Volvo calls ā€œvery generous legroom for second-row passengersā€.

While it is shorter than most SUVs for its length, its 181mm ground clearance is more than many passenger cars. It also boasts a decent (for a large car) 0.25Cd drag coefficient.

Built on Volvo’s SPA2 architecture and using the brand’s Superset tech stack (like the EX90 large SUV) which suffered from some tech teething issues at launch - since addressed by Volvo - the ES90 is capable of charging at 350kW and can add ā€œ300 kilometres of range in just 10 minutesā€, according to the brand, offering up a total 554km of EV range under WLTP testing.

Its multimedia system is Google’s built-in system, meaning a driver logs into the car to use programs as they would a computer rather than using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to manage media and use navigation.

Standard features include a large sunroof with ā€œup to 99.9 per centā€ UV protection, four-zone climate control, a 14.5-inch centre screen display, a surround-view parking camera, heated seats and steering wheel, and plenty of safety features.

The Ultra also scores a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos and an ā€˜Abbey Road Studios’ sound setting.
