Wrong colour carpet in my new Audi Q7

I ordered my Audi Q7 black with black interior trim, but when I got it home a family member pointed out that the carpet was brownish in colour. Audi call it multi-colour fresco carpet instead of the grey velour carpet, which is the normal carpet that was in the demo car. The dealer assured me that the carpet would be grey/black, but when I took the car back to the dealer, they said it was a mistake by Audi in ordering the wrong carpet. Audi says it was the dealer who ticked wrong colour and they have delivered the carpet accordingly. The dealer then came back to me because I did not specify the colour for the carpet, and what they ordered is the correct one as it is also the standard carpet. On the customer order form there is nowhere to specify the carpet colour, as it is part of the trim colour, unless you want custom colour carpet. I wanted the dealer to replace it, but I was unable to resolve it with them and took it up with fair-trading. They ruled against me because I had taken delivery of the car, so I have no case. The dealer did offer to go halves with the cost of replacing the carpet, which is $5600, but that means I am still out of pocket of $2800 for something that is not my fault. I am unhappy with the carpet colour, what can I do?

First, this should be a warning to all new car buyers to thoroughly check their car before accepting it from the dealer. Don't be afraid to be a pain in the rear, check it against the order that you placed, and make sure that it is the car you ordered. If it isn't, or there are doubts, ask questions of the dealer and get any issues resolved then and there. If you can't satisfactorily resolve any concerns you have do not drive the car away, record your issues with the car in writing and have the dealer sign them as an acknowledgement of your discussions.

It's really unbelievable that Audi and/or the dealer didn't simply change the carpet and resolve the issue immediately. But as they didn't, the best solution for you is to accept the dealer's offer of replacing the carpet at half cost. While that's not the optimum, in the circumstances it's probably the best you can hope for.
