Until recently I have always had good fuel economy from my 2000 TJ Mitsubishi Magna VRX. I was getting 7.8-8.1 L/100 km on a trip and 9.5-10.00 L/100 km around town, but I'm now getting 15.1 L/100 km around town and 9.2 on a trip. There is no noticeable change in the performance of the engine, I have replaced spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter, and had the gas analyzer in the exhaust system, and set the tyres to the correct pressure. Do you think it could be a faulty computer chip, or do you have any other suggestions?
If the computer is correct you should also be stopping at the fuel pump more frequently, if you're still driving roughly the same distance on a tank full of fuel then there is likely to be a problem with the computer. More likely though it's a sensor playing up. It could be the oxygen sensors in the exhaust, or it could be the airflow meter in the intake.
