The Q8 is one of those rare things – a truly elegant SUV coupe out of Germany. Launched in 2019, the SQ8 TDI performance version differentiated itself from the ballistic RS Q8 flagship by being V8 diesel-powered. But, now, with Audi dropping the TDI for a V8 petrol engine that's actually based on the RS Q8's, the lines have blurred as surely as the latest SQ8's performance has rocketed.

The previous Audi SQ7 TDI was a performance seven-seater SUV diesel V8 with remarkable torque and exceptional economy. But that's been swept aside by the SQ7 TFSI, featuring a 4.0-litre petrol V8 instead. Keenly priced against its largely petrol-powered rivals, the MY23 model offers stronger acceleration, better handling and more refinement, but it also drinks much more fuel than before.
