Running in a new car

I read that you stated running in is important and can have a dramatic effect on your vehicle's performance. Having only bought second-hand in the past, we're looking at purchasing a new car and were wondering the best way to run-in a new car?

Start by reading the owner's manual for your car, which should include information on running in a new engine. But as a guide, drive it at various speeds and various loads and don't be afraid of working the engine reasonably hard, but don't thrash it.
