I am absolutely stoked with my 2014 Isuzu D-Max, but I've been reading about problems with common-rail diesels. With the high pressures in the crankcase reasonable amounts of oil are pushed past the crankcase baffle and into the engine intake system. This oil finds its way into the intercooler and eventually into the inlet manifold where it mixes with EGR gasses to form a thick black greasy substance that restricts the inlet manifold runners. A fix is fitting an Oil/Air Separator or catch can, but Isuzu’s service techs don't believe it's necessary, as Isuzu's aren't affected as badly as other brands. Is it worth fitting one anyway?
I wouldn’t, but if it makes you feel more comfortable to have some extra protection then go ahead and do it.
