Nissan Patrol 2006: Should I use overdrive when towing?

When towing in my 2006 GU Nissan Patrol 3.0-litre auto I have the overdrive switched off and I have found that I sit on 3000 rpm at 90 km/h on the flat. I am reluctant to push it harder as I have read you shouldn't take this car over 3000 rpm. Can you advise if this is normal, or should I have something checked? When not towing it will sit at 2500 rpm at 110 km/h on the flat.

You would expect it to be revving harder with the extra load of the trailer on the back, so that’s normal. I would engage overdrive when conditions suit, like on the flat, and run at the lower speed, but disengage it when the engine starts to labour, such as climbing hills or pushing into a head wind etc.
