Ask Smithy Xtra Mercedes heating up

On a couple of occasions recently the temperature has gone up on my Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG, although not to critical levels. The red light starts at 125 degrees C and it has reached 105-110 degrees C. When this has happened, it gurgles and leaks some excess coolant. I found out that is more likely to overheat when the A/C is on. Any suggestions?

’Benz specialist Peter Lennox suggests that you first check to make sure the thermo fan is working correctly, so check the fuse and relay there. He says leaves can accumulate in the fan shroud and between the radiator and air-conditioning condenser, which can reduce the airflow, so it’s worth removing the radiator and any leaves that you find.
