Emily discovered her interest in cars early through her mum’s passion, and quickly found herself researching the cool cars her mum’s S15 Nissan 200SX passed on the highway.

Emily's readiness to engage and have a chat wound up opening her first door in the media, spending time as a freelance events and news photographer for her local paper while undertaking a Creative Writing degree at the University of Wollongong.

After graduating, Emily helped to build the family real estate business. Not satisfied with the high-octane environment of sales, Emily signed a book deal for her YA fantasy novel and has successfully published the first novel in the series.

Always one to be busy (sometimes to her chagrin), she wrote the novel and then completed the edits while pregnant with her cheeky five-year-old boy. As if growing a little human wasn’t exhausting enough!

But her natural curiosity of ‘what’s that car?!’ and 'why don't they do it this way?!' continued throughout and it didn’t come as a surprise to her family when she was drawn into the automotive world professionally as a Contributing Journalist with CarsGuide.

Aside from her passion for what makes a good family car, Emily has a soft spot for Nissan Skylines, big utes and any muscle cars that make the heart thump.

Hyundai already has a great EV in the form of the SUV Ioniq 5, so what does the Ioniq 6 bring to the table? Well, it’s styled as a sedan for those wanting something a bit sportier and the driving range outstrips the 5 by a minimum of 95km… which is not to be sniffed at. The driving range certainly...Read more
In an age where families are becoming smaller and storage is at a premium, there’s a market for SUVs that have just the right amount of space to warrant the SUV tag, but don’t compromise on power… enter the Lexus NX350 F Sport. The NX sits below its bigger RX stablemate in terms of size but unless...Read more
The Toyota RAV4 has held the title of being one of Australia’s most popular SUVs for good reason. It’s comparatively affordable for the market, spacious and easy to drive. I was pretty keen to get in one again because my first car was a 2003 three-door version that I absolutely loved and drove for...Read more
It’s been a week of surprises. I’m not one to usually fangirl over a people mover, as I’ve always found them to look a bit ugly. Yet, the new Kia Carnival Platinum turbo-diesel (which is top-of-the-range) has converted me. I only have one child but I’ll be damned if I’ll be talked out of...Read more
The new Kia Sorento HEV GT-Line AWD is another entry to the growing hybrid market and competes against heavy hitters like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Kluger, but what makes it different from the competitors? Well, it’s a seven-seater that boasts four ISOFIX child seat mounts and five top-...Read more
If you love the Isuzu D-Max ute but need some extra boot space and seating for the family, then the MU-X is your ride. It's roughly the same price, so you don't feel like you're getting stung for needing those extra features, either. It's got some competition with the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and...Read more
Is it a station wagon or an SUV? It's kinda both. The new Outback AWD Sport XT has the AWD capabilities of an SUV but the concise handling of a station wagon and it's a wonderful combo for a family car. The Sport XT is one of the two models Subaru is offering with a new turbo-petrol engine (hurrah...Read more
The Toyota Fortuner Crusade is a strange beast. It’s a four-wheel drive that feels like a HiLux hybrid but it lacks the fun of its ute sibling, despite being able to seat seven. The four-wheel drive capabilities, seat configuration and high-ride should be a winning combo but it sits awkwardly in...Read more
When it comes to choosing a family car, sedans are often overlooked for their long-legged wagon or beefy SUV cousins. They're a bit of a forgotten hero but they'll always hold a piece of my heart for their practicality and (often) sexier kerb-side appeal. If you can get used to your body cracking...Read more
The top model, for Jeep's only ute, is jam-packed with fun. There are little Easter eggs, some which are unique, to be hunted and shared across Jeep fan pages. The body shape brings on some ’90s heart-throb vibes and the sheer size of it will crick a few necks as they go for a second peek. This is...Read more
The Kia Seltos Sport+ is as good-looking as ever and offers families who might be tight on space, an affordable small SUV. At $35,800, before on-road costs, the features list has been expanded to keep up with the market, positioning it as a firm competitor against the likes of the Honda HR-V and...Read more
Oh, how I have longed for the Nissan Pathfinder to be revamped and reshaped! You could be forgiven for confusing the predecessor with its smaller sibling, the X-Trail but the newly released Ti has metamorphosed from a rather plump and (boring) caterpillar to a handsome butterfly. It’s now modern,...Read more
The new Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain is a bear of a unit to look at but it handles like a much smaller car. For families with young kids, it combines one of the best rear seats I've seen in a ute, plus all the things you want and expect from a workhorse. After driving this for a week with my family of...Read more
I’m not going to lie, Genesis, isn’t a brand that I’ve paid much attention to as they sort of cruised under my radar, but I will be paying close attention to them now. The new electrified GV70 is a luxuriously appointed EV that combines looks, finesse and practicality with size and AWD capability...Read more
The Volkswagen Tiguan 162TSI R-Line is a sporty-looking package that combines space, easy-to-use tech and a smooth drive experience. Add the all-wheel-drive and we might have ourselves the combo that a lot of families are looking for! Is it perfect? Well, no (what car is), but it has some great...Read more
I've been driving the newly released Toyota Corolla Cross Atmos Hybrid 2WD for the last week with my family of three and it's not just the fuel economy that's good! It has the luxury features you often find on more expensive SUVs , combined with a no-fuss drive experience. While it is an SUV , it...Read more
This week my family of three has been roaring about town in an SUV that sounds, looks, and drives like a serious sports car. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio (Kwad-ree-FOg-leeO) or ‘Q’ has an engine that’s been designed with performance in mind, but surprisingly, it’s still a practical family...Read more
What the hell is a SsangYong Rexton ELX? Sort of sounds like a new kind of dinosaur, doesn't it? Well, no, it's a recently facelifted (proper) four-wheel drive , with seven seats and a decent diesel engine . It hails from a car company that isn't usually known for it's stylish line-up but the...Read more
After driving it for a week with my family of three, it’s easy to see why the newly facelifted Kia Sportage SX petrol is a serious competitor for the medium SUV market. The biggest pull factor is a price tag that should make even a budget conscious individual excited. However, it’s restyle has...Read more
