Isuzu D-Max 2021 Q&As

Check out real-world situations relating to the Isuzu D-Max 2021 here, particularly what our experts have to say about them.

  • Are the front drive shafts and CV joints of the 2021 Mazda BT-50 interchangeable with the Isuzu D-max?

If we’re talking about the current model D-Max and BT-50, then yes, the entire driveline should be interchangeable. Under the skin, both the Mazda and Isuzu utes are the same vehicle. Car makers enter into joint ventures like the development of this pair of vehicles to keep costs down by sharing the expense of developing, engineering and testing parts like engines, transmissions and, of course, drive-shafts and CV joints.

While most joint ventures like this one will arrive at two vehicles with some visual differences and usually some details differences inside, when it comes to the oily bits, making specific driveline or suspension parts for one vehicle over the other is defeating the purpose of the joint venture in the first place.

  • Will a 2006 Isuzu nudge bar fit on my new 2021 Isuzu D-Max.

Almost certainly not. Unless there’s some strange quirk of manufacturing that allows the mounting points to magically line up, the current Isuzu D-Max is an all-new design, compared even to the most recent predecessor, let alone the model from 2006. The 2006 D-Max shared a lot of its architecture and engineering with the Holden Rodeo and later Colorado, while the new D-Max is a joint venture with Mazda and forms the basis of that company’s BT-50 range of utes.

You may be able to engineer a set of adaptors to mount the early nudge-bar to the later vehicle, but at some point it’ll get messy and simply not worth the time and money investment compared with buying a nudge-bar designed specifically for a 2021 D-Max. There’s also the issue of whether the old nudge-bar design would be compatible with the air-bag system of the new Isuzu. Again, almost certainly not is the short answer.

Isuzu D-Max 2021 Accessories

Just like most ute customers, those in the market for a 2021 Isuzu D-Max will have the choice of more than a handful of accessories to fit to their ute. And that’s the genuine accessories catalog we’re talking about - don’t even get us started on aftermarket options.

The list includes options for nudge bars and bull bars, all of which are designed to work with the advanced driver safety assistance systems including AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection. But take note - there are no genuine Isuzu bull bar options with winch capability, though there are points to attach aerials.

There are other protective options like bonnet protector and headlight protector choices, not to mention weathershields, side steps, roof rack systems, and different wheel choices.

Other accessories include: snorkel, roof rails, rubber floor mats, canopy, hard tonneau cover, tub liner / bed liner, soft tonneau cover, rubber tray mat, ladder rack, driving lights and more.

If you’re not going for a pick-up and want to go with a dealer-fit tray option for your cab-chassis single, extra or double cab D-Max, you’ll be happy to know there are a few choices available including aluminium and steel trays, and accessories like underbody storage optional, too.

Isuzu D-Max 2021 Interior

The interior of the new-generation 2021 Isuzu D-Max is perhaps one of the biggest improvements over the previous model, and that’s saying something because this new ute is much improved in many ways.

The thing is, though, that you get a bit more wow factor in the cabin than before, with the top two grades getting a 9.0-inch touchscreen media unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and USB-connect Android Auto. Plus these variants have additional USB charging in the rear row if you choose a dual cab, too.

The lower grades get a 7.0-inch screen which still has the smartphone tech but doesn’t look quite as amazing, as the bezel is the same size. But compared to the last model, this is a huge step forward.

There are also much improved materials, though the base grades (SX and LS-M) still get rubber floors and hard-wearing fabric seats. The LS-U has fabric seats and carpet flooring, while the X-Terrain steps things up with leather accented seats. Both the LS-U and X-Terrain have leather-trimmed steering wheels.

Isuzu D-Max 2021 Seats

Wondering how many seats are in the 2021 Isuzu D-Max? That’ll depend on the body-style you choose.

The single cab versions are two-seater only. No bench seats here to rub sweaty shoulders with your workmates, and there’s even a centre front airbag to protect both occupants in the event of a side-impact collision.

The extra cab models are also two-seat only. Previously, extra cab (or space cab, in Isuzu speak) models had four seats, including two rear spots for passengers. But not anymore, as the brand reckons the safety standards it has set for the new-generation model wouldn’t be met by having human occupants in the back of this body ute.

Choose a dual cab (or double cab) of any model grade and you’ll find yourself with five seats. The rear is foldable to allow secure storage if you don’t need all five positions filled, and there are dual ISOFIX child seat tethers and two top-tether hooks (that feed to a centre secure lashing location - you can’t fit three child seats in the back).

In the back there is a pair of cup holders in a flip-down armrest in the LS-U and X-Terrain, plus all dual cabs get door pockets with bottle holders, and there are rear seat directional air vents, too.
