2024 Suzuki Jimny XL 5-door gains retro Heritage edition as the tiny SUV outsells the Toyota Corolla Cross, Kia Stonic and Hyundai Venue

Suzuki is going back in time again, offering up another retro-inspired version of its wildly popular Jimny 4x4.

The Japanese carmaker launched a Heritage version of the three-door Jimny a little over a year ago, and according to Suzuki Australia, it sold out within five hours of going on sale.

This time around Suzuki has slapped the retro decals onto the five-door XL version of the Jimny that landed Down Under in December last year.

Just 500 examples of the Jimny XL Heritage will be made available in Australia and they are priced at $36,490 before on-road costs - which is $1500 more than the GLX on which it is based.

Suzuki says that delivery will be based on “the current queue process as are all Jimny sales in Australia”, and deliveries will kick off after they land in late June or early August.

The extra visual flourishes that differentiate the Heritage from the regular Jimny GLX include red front and rear mud flaps, a Jimny Heritage cargo tray, Heritage decals, a limited build badge and a Jimny Heritage pack.

Just 500 examples of will be made available.

If you’re after a Jimny auto, the bad news is the Heritage is a manual-only proposition.

As with the three-door version, the XL Heritage references Suzuki’s off-road past that dates back to the 1970s, 80s and 90s with models like the Sierra and early versions of the Vitara.

It will be available in five colours including Jungle Green, Bluish Black, Granite Grey, White and Ivory with a Black roof.

The Jimny is still on a hot streak when it comes to sales. Something it’s been on since the current-gen model landed in early 2019.

The XL Heritage references Suzuki’s off-road past.

To the end of April this year, the Jimny has found 3037 homes, which is a 65 per cent increase over the same period last year.

That makes it the second most popular model in the light SUV segment behind the ageing Mazda CX-3, which has recorded 5639 sales so far this year.

The Jimny is ahead of other popular light SUVs like the Toyota Corolla Cross (2582), Kia Stonic (2179) and Hyundai Venue (2064).
